Stall Street Journal – Entry #34

GOOD NEWS!

Sales results at the recent Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December Mixed sale were outstanding for McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds. A weanling colt that was bred and sold by us was the sale-topping weanling, selling to Highclere, Inc. for $92,000. This Kitten’s Joy – Right On It youngster was a stand out from the very beginning. He should go on and do additional good things for his very hot sire.

HERE COMES BEN was the leading first crop sire of weanlings. His filly out of Long Way Round sold for $20,000 to Saratoga Glen Farm and his colt out of Risky Kitten sold for $18,000 to Machmer Hall. BEN is off to a strong start in the sales ring, as his youngsters seem to possess attributes appealing to the trained eye.

RACING HIGHLIGHTS

It’s a breeders dream come true….it’s Sally’s Dream!

UTOPIA’S leading money winner was at it again on Wednesday, December 18th. She nipped a tough field at Aqueduct to win her tenth race…and her fifth of the year. In 2013 alone, she has won $315K. She is a “war horse,” which is uncommon these days …especially for a filly. UTOPIA’S progeny seem to be quite sound, and this filly was making her 21st start of the year. What a gift!

On the same card, UTOPIA’S son, Forever Utopia, finished second in the Damon Runyon Stakes for NY Bred two year olds going two turns. He has now won over $65K in his young career. McMahon Thoroughbreds had quite a day, as they were also co-breeders (Ted Taylor) and co-owners with That’s Amore Stables, J. Gardella, M. Ragosta, and G. Rabi of this exciting colt.

Hundred Acre Wood, a TEUFLESBERG four year old filly, dazzled the crowd at Aqueduct last week while taking a mile and 70 yards event by almost five lengths. Her earnings of $3,600 raised her career totals to $126K….a nice holiday gift for owner/breeder Paul Giacopelli, MD.

Congrats to all connections of these wonderful animals!

Holiday Greetings!

From our family to yours…Healthy and Happy Holidays…May it be a WONDERFUL 2014!

Over the past month, we've taken a look at stallions whose roots are firmly planted in central Kentucky, and ones who will be looking to set those roots in the years to come, but in this final installment of the All-Value Sire Team, we'll be looking at that group in the middle: Stallions just on the other side of the fourth-book swoon, whose roots have just sunk into the ground with the aim of building on early crops.
