Stall Street Journal – Entry #17

A smooth running, well oiled machine.

That is what we like to think McMahon Thoroughbreds of Saratoga resembles when it comes to efficiency, teamwork, communication, expert care and energy.

It isn’t always easy, either. We’ve had over six dozen foals born this season thus far....at odd times, in frigid temperatures, and from a variety of birthing presentations. Mares ship in from all over the country, around the clock – with varying dispositions and in all different condition levels. Stallions need to be primed for their duties...but not too primed. Facilities are maintained to foster good health and appeal to the eye. Communication is seamless among dozens of farm employees and hundreds of clients.

It’s fun and exciting. It also can be anxiety provoking. Each foaling and breeding is so crucial to so many...and so much can go wrong. Due to our experience, preparation, and expertise, however, it’s most always smooth sailing. This work is our livelihood and we have terrific handlers in all corners of the farm. This makes it not only reassuring, but neat to watch.

Horse and human well being...your success....helping the industry....enjoying the lifestyle....these are our priorities here at McMahon Thoroughbreds of Saratoga. Call us if you have any questions regarding our practices and experience. We think it will definitely increase your comfort level and enthusiasm.

First place finishes on the track this week include:

  • -4/14 – Nofinancingneeded, a four year old Teuflesberg gelding won a six furlong sprint at Parx by 6 ¾ lengths to increase total earnings to $53, 900 for owner/trainer John Loyle. Bred by Green Hill Farm LLC, it was the second win for this swift competitor.
  • -4/14 – Utopia’s Forbidden City won her third race in seven starts (earning of $48,786) at Golden Gate for owner/trainer Jerry Hollendorfer...Carapan Farm LLC was the breeder.
  • -4/15 – At Will Rogers Downs, Congaree’s Conga Rock won a five furlong sprint to increase his earning to just shy of $100K! Tim Dixon owns/trains and Stonerside Stable was the breeder. It was his eighth career win!
  • -4/20 – The handsome three year old gelding Run Run (by Utopia) took a sprint at Thistledown by 1 ¼ lengths for owner/trainer Ben Trask...Howard Nolan (Tarrah’s Tale is the broodmare) was the breeder.
  • -Souper Douper, a four year old son of Alphabet Soup, broke his maiden with a nice effort at Thisledown for owner/trainer Nabu Morales. This gelding was bred by Bill Corrigan and Phil DiCosmo.
  • -John and Margaret Crane bred winner John Bully’s Bob, who has now won four of twelve races. He is out of the Holy Bull mare Bullish Miss. His time at Golden Gate was a solid 1:11:1.
  • -And at Aqueduct, Utopia’s Thor’s Mjolnor got up by a nose in the $57K allowance turf event for Gary Contessa and McConnell Racing Stable. This four year old colt (June foal) is out of Thunder Babe and was bred by Art Bauer, Jeff Raine, and McMahon Thoroughbreds of Saratoga. His earnings now stand at over $107K.

Congratulations to all winners and connections!

Reminder: The April OBS sale is being held from Monday April 22 – Thursday April 25th. Many of our stallions have nice two year olds for sale that we believe will join our list of winners as early as this year. We are glad to discuss any of these prospects with you during the sale....just call the farm.

Lastly, one more heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS to the 2012 New York Bred Champions which were announced at The Saratoga National Golf Club on Monday Night , April 15th.
