BREEDER AWARDS - please see revised award payment schedule below 

In 2008 the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund paid $6,817,331 to breeders of Registered New York-breds. A breeder is the owner of the mare at the time the mare foals in the State of New York. Breeder's awards are determined by covering stallion. If the New York-bred is by a registered New York-based stallion the award is 20% of purses earned from 1st through 3rd positions. If the New York-bred is out of state stallion or non-registered stallion the award is 10% of purses earned from 1st through 3rd positions. All Breeder awards are capped at $10,000 per horse, per race.

In 2008 the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund distributed $2,133,913 in stallion owner's awards. Stallion Awards are paid to owners of registered New York-based covering stallions (time of conception) at 7% of earned purses from 1st through 3rd positions. All Stallion Owner's Awards are capped at $10,000 per horse, per race.

In 2008 the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund paid $1,388,649 to owners of registered New York-breds who earned purse money in open company races. Owner Awards for registered New York-breds sired by a registered New York-based stallion is 20% of purses earned from 1st through 3th positions in races run for a claiming price of $30,000 and upward with a cap of $20,000 per horse, per race.

NEW YORK - BRED RACES
Annually, there are 45 stake races, which are run at New York Racing Association racetracks (Aqueduct Racetrack, Belmont Park and Saratoga Race Course) and Finger Lakes Racetrack with total purses of over $4-Million exclusively for Registered New York-breds. In addition, in 2007 there were almost 1000 overnight races run exclusively for Registered New York-breds at the above-mentioned New York racetracks.

REVISIED AWARD CHANGES AS OF JULY 1, 2009

BREEDER AWARDS:

New York sired: 1st Place finish = 20%; 2nd & 3rd place finish = 10% - Award cap of $10,000 per horse per race.

Non-New York sired: 1st Place finish = 10%; 2nd & 3rd place finish = 5% - Award cap of $10,000 per horse per race.

OPEN OWNER AWARDS:

New York sired: 1st through 3rd place finish in $30,000 claiming races and up = 20% - Award cap of $20,000 per horse per race.

Non-New York sired: 1st through 3rd place finish place finish in $30,000 claiming and up = 10% - Award cap of $20,000 per horse per race.

STALLION OWNER AWARDS:

Horses sired by registered New York-based stallions at time of conception finishing 1st through 3rd = 7% - Award cap of $20,000 per horse per race.
