SILENT NAME (jpn) MATING RECOMMENDATIONS
By Sunday Silence out of a mare by Danehill, Silent Name holds tremendous sire power in the first two generations of his pedigree alone. Combined, Sunday Silence and Danehill have sired nearly 500 stakes winners worldwide. Silent Name is the first American graded stakes winner by Sunday Silence to stand in North America.
Mares from the Mr. Prospector line are obvious mates for Silent Name. There are at least 106 stakes winners bred Halo over Mr. Prospector, and around a third of them are by Sunday Silence and his sons. At least 31 of those overall stakes winners involve the Mr. Prospector sons Miswaki, Mining, Seeking the Gold, Woodman and Afleet. The first four all by Mr. Prospector out of Buckpasser mares, while Afleet is by Mr. Prospector out of a mare by Buckpasser’s sire Tom Fool. This group includes Japan Cup (G1) winner Zenno Rob Roy (by Sunday Silence out of a Mining mare).
Daughters of Mr. Prospector’s most important international son, Machiavellian, are also represented in the sample and daughters of his top American son Street Cry should be considered for Silent Name.
Mares by the Mr. Prospector grandson Thunder Gulch should also go well with Silent Name. Of the early stakes winners out of Thunder Gulch mares, four are by either Halo or Danzig-line stallions, including stakes winners by a pair of Danehill sons. Thunder Gulch is out of a mare by Storm Bird and there are at least 40 stakes winners inbred to Northern Dancer based on the Danehill/Storm Bird cross.
This makes Storm Cat-line mares potentially desirable for Silent Name as well. Although the Storm Cat influence is not nearly as prominent in Japan as it is in North America, Sunday Silence and at least two stallions from his male line have sired stakes winners out of mares by Storm Cat.
Sunday Silence and his sons have also sired at least five stakes winners out of daughters and granddaughters of another prominent American influence, Alydar. Mares carrying that son of Raise A Native are especially attractive targets for Silent Name when one considers how successful Danzig/Danehill has also been with Alydar. There are over 93 stakes winners that combine Danzig on the top half of the pedigree and Alydar on the bottom, including at least 20 involving Danehill.
Mares from the Seattle Slew broodmare line can also be tried with Silent Name. America’s best son of Halo to date, Saint Ballado, sired four stakes winners with Seattle Slew-line mares including a pair of graded stakes winners out of daughters of A. P. Indy. The overall Halo/Seattle Slew cross has yielded 15 stakes winners (over half group/graded winners) on three different continents.
Sunday Silence and sons have sired at least 11 stakes winners out of direct Roberto-line mares and overall there are over 80 stakes winners that show Halo on the top side of the pedigree and Roberto on the bottom (including Zenyatta). Roberto has been especially powerful when combined with Danzig as some 169 stakes winners show both, with a good number of them involving Danehill.
