McMahon Thoroughbreds Team

Joe and Anne McMahon

Joe and Anne McMahon Founders of "McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds, LLC"

Married since June of 1970, Joe and Anne McMahon have called Fitch Road home since 1971. Joe's family is local to the Saratoga area and he grew up at the Saratoga backstretch. Anne's family is from Rhode Island. She found her way to Saratoga as a freshman at Skidmore College, lured by the riding program at the college and the beauty of Saratoga Race Course.  They are the parents of five children (Michael, John, Jane, Kate and Tara), and they have eleven grandchildren!

Joe has been active on the board of the New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc. since its inception and he now serves as an appointed Breeder Member of the New York State Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund Board.

Each is active on a daily basis on the farm. They feel it is important to have a “hands on” approach to running their farm.  Whether being present at a foaling, during the vet rounds, caring for and raising foals, breeding the stallions to the mares, in the hayfield or the office, they keep that personal touch in their business.

Joe and Anne are active skiers and also enjoy boating, horse racing and riding.

John McMahon and Kate McMahon

John and Kate McMahon and Family

John oversees the Dodd Road farm on a daily basis. During breeding season John runs the breeding shed, as well as helps in the office selling stallion seasons. He is also very active in foaling, as all of it takes place at the Dodd Road Farm, where he and Kate reside. During the summertime, John often heads up most of the field work, as well as travels to the sales that take place in New York, Maryland, Kentucky, and Florida.

John has been an officer of the Saratoga County Farm Bureau, serving as the Secretary and has also served as a board of director member of the New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc for the past two years.

After graduating from Delaware Valley College in 1994, with an Associates degree in Equine Science and a Bachelors degree in Animal Science with a specialization in Equine Science, Kate returned to McMahon Of Saratoga Thoroughbreds, LLC full time. Kate can be seen all over the farm, but her primary focus is broodmare and foal care and health. She also plays a very active role during foaling season, and heads up the vaccination and worming on both farms. During the summertime, she helps with preparation of the sales horses, and travels to the sales.

John and Kate also add to the farm with their international experience. The couple worked together at New Zealand's Windsor Park Stud, focusing primarily on yearling sales preparations.

In 1997 Kate married John McMahon. They began their family in 1998 and now have two sons, Johnny and Kyle, and a daughter Sarah. The couple enjoy skiing, the outdoors, and a summer vacation at the beach.
