NEWS and NOTES

 

UTOPIA remains hot, as he has taken over the 4th spot on the Overall Active Leading NY Sires! He currently has $2,275,417 in progeny earnings. Next on our roster is CATIENUS in 8th, TEUFLESBURG in 14th, and MR. SEKIGUCHI at #20. UTOPIA is also first on the Third Crop NY Sire list and 5th among the leading two year old sires in the state.

 

Speaking of UTOPIA, his filly Sally’s Dream won her ninth race and in doing so upped her career earnings to $453K by taking a one mile turf feature at Aqueduct on November 22. The filly is by Linda Britt (Cormorant) and was bred by McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds and John and Kate McMahon. She is being nicely managed by owner/trainer Randi Persaud.

 

McMahon of Saratoga also bred the three year old filly, Effie Trinket, who finished a game second in the recently run Mrs. Revere Stakes (Grade 2T) at Churchill Downs, defeating twelve other talented competitors at the 1 and 1/16 mile distance. She raised her career totals to $470K…this is a nice multiple stakes winning filly which should be in the running for Champion NY Bred Turf honors.

 

Saturday, November 22nd was New York Stallion Stakes Day at Aqueduct. This day was comprised, in part, of four Stakes races for NY Sired NY Breds. The total purses for just these four Stakes races was $550K…and there were three other NY Bred races on the card worth @$180K. McMahon of Saratoga was well represented, but it was not the day we had hoped for, as the best we could manage was a third place finish by UTOPIA’S Champagne Ruby in the $150K Statue of Liberty Stakes. This Linda Rice trainee put in a real strong finish and was gaining at the wire. She was bred by Carapan Farm and is owned by Clyde Rice.

On a newsworthy farm note, there is a new employee in the busy office these days. Her name is Carissa Brunelle. She is a quick study, good horseman, and is eager to help in any way she can. Please call to introduce yourself --- and if she can help you in any way, please let her know.
