We’re proud to share that our very own John McMahon has been named the 2024 New York Farm Manager of the Year by the New York Thoroughbred Breeders, Inc. (NYTB). This annual award—voted on by the NYTB Board of Directors—recognizes an individual in a managerial or supervisory role at a New York Thoroughbred-based farm who exemplifies leadership, consistency, and true horsemanship.
As the son of McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds’ founders, Joe and Anne McMahon, John has grown up immersed in the daily rhythms of the farm. Over the years, he has become an indispensable part of our team, leading by example and playing a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of our breeding program.
What sets John apart is not just his knowledge and dedication, but his care for the people and horses around him. Whether he's mentoring younger staff, managing foaling season with calm confidence, or stepping in wherever he's needed, John brings a level of reliability and integrity that keeps everything running—and running well.
This recognition from NYTB is not only a celebration of John’s individual contributions, but also a reflection of the collaborative spirit we’ve worked hard to build here at McMahon of Saratoga. We’re so grateful to have John at the heart of our farm and couldn’t be prouder to see his hard work and leadership acknowledged across the New York thoroughbred breeding community.
Congratulations, John—you’ve earned it.
