McMahon-Bred Shines at OBS Winter Mixed Sale

New York breeding was well represented during Tuesday’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales Winter Mixed Sale, highlighted by a strong result for McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds.

Hip 56, a New York-bred short yearling colt by Empire State-based sire Bucchero out of the stakes-placed City Zip mare Spirit of Rose, led the way for our program when he sold for $50,000 to Joe DiRico.

The April 20 colt was bred in partnership with Spruce Lane Farm, foaled at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds in Saratoga Springs, and consigned by McMahon of Saratoga. He is the eighth foal out of Spirit of Rose, a proven producer whose runners include the stakes-placed, 14-time winner Thorny Tale with earnings of $469,149, as well as stakes-placed winner Zipalong and three additional winners.

Results like this continue to reinforce the strength of New York breeding and the value of proven female families in the marketplace. We wish this colt the very best of luck as he moves forward to his racing career.
